Now, enjoying his time away from football, Bale has been involved with the sport of golf and will take part in the Ryder Cup all-star match – alongisde other sporting greats like Novak Djokovic.

Bale has been indulging in a lot of golf and has even featured in the BMW Pro-Am as well as the Festival of Sport and Golf Championship. However, even in retirement, his injury concerns are still as high as ever.

The former Wales international will partner Colin Montgomerie in the All-Star match, who gave a witty response to Bale’s injury complaints during the all-star buildup.

Team captain Colin Montgomerie said: “He said he’s got a back injury but he’s been saying that for many many years.”

Bale responded with: “The legs are fine but the back is a bit stiff after the other day. I struck it okay, it didn’t seem to go too far off line so hopefully the fans are a bit safer.”

Despite this, the former Spurs superstar refused to miss the chance to play at the Ryder Cup, as he an impressive handicap of two.
