Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued a Declan Rice injury update after the England midfielder had to be subbed off at half-time in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. Read on to see what the Arsenal boss had to say.

Declan Rice Injury Update

The Gunners drew 2-2 with Spurs on Sunday afternoon despite leading twice in the game. Cristian Romero’s own goal put Arsenal 1-0 up inside the first half before Heung-Min Son levelled the game just before half-time thanks to some good work from James Maddison on the left wing.

Arsenal then took the lead in the second half through a Saka penalty, but moments later it was 2-2 as Son scored his second of the game to level the scoreline. The game finished 2-2 in what was an entertaining North London derby.

However, a big talking point among Arsenal fans was that Rice had to be subbed off at half-time. Following the game, Arteta gave a Declan Rice injury update.

“He had some discomfort in his back.

“He was telling us during the first half that he was uncomfortable and when we assessed him at half-time he could not continue, so we had to change him.”

Arteta was asked if Rice would be out for the short-term or medium-term: “Hopefully not. We have to assess him.

“It’s strange when a player like him asks to come off because he’s uncomfortable. Hopefully not, but let’s see.”

The England international has started all of Arsenal’s games so far this season, and fans will be hoping this back issue will not keep him out of action for too long.

He could join Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the injury room.

The Gunners travel to Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, before a trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
