Manchester City remain the betting favourites to successfully defend their Champions League title and win the competition for a second time in the club’s history after matchday 1.

Pep Guardiola’s side claimed their maiden European Cup earlier this year and began their defence with a 3-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade in Group G thanks to a brace from Julian Alvarez and Rodri’s third goal of the season.

Bayern Munich are the second favourites after cruising to a 4-3 victory against Manchester United, with the scoreline flattering the visitors who were played off the park by the Bundesliga giants.

Jude Bellingham scored another injury-time winner as Real Madrid began proceedings in Group C with three points against Union Berlin and Los Blancos hold the third-best odds to claim what would be a 15th Champions League title.

Arsenal marked their return to the competition after a six-year absence with a 4-0 win over PSV and Mikel Arteta’s side should make it to the knockout stages comfortably with Sevilla and Lens also in their group.

Barcelona and PSG are next in the betting with outsiders such as United, Inter Milan, Napoli, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid further down.

Champions League Winner Odds

To win the competition:

  • Manchester City @ 2/1
  • Bayern Munich @ 5/1
  • Real Madrid @ 8/1
  • Arsenal @ 8/1
  • Barcelona @ 10/1
  • PSG @ 14/1
  • Manchester United @ 25/1
  • Inter Milan @ 25/1
  • Napoli @ 25/1

Manchester City are undoubtedly the best side in Europe at the minute, but Bayern won’t be a pushover and it would be a treat to see these two sides meet in the later stages of the competition.

Harry Kane was brought to the Allianz Arena to bring the Champions League back to Munich, with their last triumph coming in the competition in 2020.

These two look like the strongest bets to go all the way but Real Madrid are experts in the competition and shouldn’t be overlooked, with Bellingham leading what looks like the start of something special in the Spanish capital.
