Barcelona are reportedly interested in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and see him as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Alexander Isak Wanted By Barcelona

Barcelona look to be planning their long-term future with Lewandowski now 35, and Xavi is a huge admirer of Isak, seeing him as a potential replacement for the Polish striker. He has impressed in Spain before and made a name for himself at Real Sociedad where he scored 44 goals in 132 appearances.

Isak still has a contract until 2028 at St James’ Park so it would not be easy for Barca with the striker only signing for Newcastle last season in a £63m deal.

The Sweden international has 12 goals in 31 games for the Magpies, and finds himself competing with Callum Wilson for a starting spot. Isak was an unused substitute in the side’s 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday and Wilson started, scoring the only goal of the game.

Lewandowski does not look finished yet though and despite his age he has started the new season with a bang. The 35-year-old has scored three goals and recorded three assists in five La Liga games.

He was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer, but the Poland international stated he never considered leaving Barcelona.

Lewandowski scored once and provided two assists in Barca’s impressive 5-0 win over Real Betis on Saturday night.
