Newcastle United summer signing Harvey Barnes is considering switching allegiances from England to Scotland ahead of next year’s Euro 2024 in Germany.

Harvey Barnes Considering Scotland Switch

Steve Clarke’s side are on the verge of qualifying for next summer’s tournament after an impressive five wins on the bounce in Group A. They have won all of their games in the campaign so far, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one.

Barnes is eligible to play for Scotland through his grandparents, and is considering a switch from England.

It is reported that Barnes is keen on following in the footsteps of Scott McTominay, Angus Gunn and Che Adams, who have all made the switch.

The Newcastle winger has made just one appearance for the England senior team, after he came off the bench in a friendly against Wales back in October 2020.

Gareth Southgate has strong options at left-wing, meaning that the former Leicester City star has slim chances of getting a chance for England any time soon.

Barnes did not even make the Three Lions’ provisional 55-man squad for last year’s World Cup in Qatar, despite his strong goalscoring record in the Premier League.

Only one English winger scored more goals in the league than Barnes last season and that was Bukayo Saka. The 25-year-old left Leicester after they were relegated to the Championship last season, and signed for the Magpies in a deal worth just shy of £40million.

This news comes just days before Scotland host England at Hampden Park in a friendly to mark the 150th anniversary of the Scottish FA.
