Rio Ferdinand has claimed that he ‘would retire’ from the international team if he was Raheem Sterling or James Ward-Prowse, after the in form pair were not called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad this week.
Ward-Prowse And Sterling Left At Home By England
Both Raheem Sterling and James Ward-Prowse were left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the side’s upcoming Euro Qualifier against Ukraine, despite both players being in great form.
Former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has spoken out about the pair not being called up, with the pundit making some bold statements of his own.
“If I was Sterling, I’d be very disappointed bearing in mind what he’s done for this England team when he’s been in or around it.
“If you’re going by the yard stick that Gareth’s using with the likes of [Harry] Maguire and [Kalvin] Phillips, why is it all right for them guys to get in and not him?”

Maguire and Phillips have both endured a tough patch for their clubs and both are seen as squad players for United and Manchester City right now, with neither player getting regular game time.
“Sterling’s probably been the main bright spark at Chelsea. It’s just nuts. I’d retire. If I’m someone like Ward-Prowse I’d just retire.
“Say, ‘listen, don’t pick me no more. There’s no point. It’s disrespectful what you’re doing’. It is to people like him, especially Ward-Prowse who’s been putting up numbers for his team on a regular basis. What more does a man got to do to get a sniff?”

Ward-Prowse has kicked off his career for West Ham with three assists and a goal in the Premier League, with the midfielder proving to be worth every penny of the £30m deal so far.
Sterling on the other hand has been the shining light in a dull Chelsea team so far this season, with the winger scoring two goals in his first four matches for a poor Blues side.
England take on Ukraine in a Euro qualifier this weekend, before the Three Lions move on to a friendly against Scotland next Tuesday.
