Manchester United have reportedly made ‘initial contacts’ with Tottenham Hotspur over the availability of Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of deadline day.

According to Sky Sports News, Manchester United have made ‘initial contacts’ over a possible deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The midfielder has two-years remaining on his deal in the English capital, with Spurs said to be open to his departure if a suitable offer came in for his services.

Hojbjerg was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid earlier in the window, however a transfer was never formalised.

Erik ten Hag has worked with the Danish international previously at Bayern Munich, and has also worked with United’s other two main midfield targets – Sofyan Amrabat, at Utrecht, and Ryan Gravenberch, at Ajax.

Since the turn of the new campaign, Hojbjerg has failed to start a game under Ange Postecoglou, making just two league appearances from the bench.

In this time, Tottenham have gone unbeaten – winning two and drawing one, including a 2-0 victory over the Red Devils in gameweek two.

His omission from the Spurs lineup could just be Postecoglou preparing for life without the Dane – but regardless, they seem well equipped in his absence with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr starting the previous two matches as the defensive midfield pairing.

Hojbjerg would become the fourth major arrival at Old Trafford this summer, following Andre Onana, Mason Mount, and international teammate Rasmus Hojlund through the door.

Elsewhere, United are in the market for a new left-back following Luke Shaw’s injury, whilst Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir looks set to join as a replacement for the outgoing Dean Henderson, who is set to join Crystal Palace.
