Ten Hag is reportedly desperate to bring in a new left-back before transfer deadline day, with the club currently not having a player in that position fit.

United have lost both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to injury with the former being ruled out for a few months with a muscle injury. Meanwhile, Malacia missed a lot of pre-season with an issue, and is expected back next month.

Against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Diogo Dalot filled in at left-back and did not look the most comfortable. The side are desperate for reinforcements, even on a short-term basis.

Fabrizio Romano reported that United have opened talks with Chelsea to bring Cucurella in on an emergency loan. The Italian transfer specialist says that the Red Devils have narrowed down their options to a three-man shortlist.

Cucurella only moved to Stamford Bridge from Brighton last summer and the Blues paid £65million for the 25-year-old.

The Spaniard had a superb debut season in England, earning him a big money move. However, he has not been able to live up to that kind of money yet in West London.

Mauricio Pochettino appears to favour other players ahead of Cucurella, with Ian Maatsen now in the first team over him.
