Manchester City have been dealt a huge blow in their summer transfer business, as a deal for Lucas Paqueta is reportedly set to collapse.
Pep Guardiola’s search for an attacking midfielder has face a massive stumbling block, as talks with West Ham over Lucas Paqueta have fallen through.
The need for an attacking midfielder comes after Ilkay Gundogan left the club and star man, Kevin De Bruyne faces an extended absence through injury.
The situation could change with agents not giving up on trying to make deal happen but reports suggest that there is a 90 per cent chance the deal is off.
However, after City’s initial bid was rejected by the Hammers, Guardiola’s side were expected to make an improved offer – but this now looks unlikely.

Paqueta still has a long time left at the club, with four years remaining on his West Ham contract. The Europa Conference League winners signed him from Ligue 1 giants, Lyon, for around £50m last August but the player would be open to leaving if City bid.
The 25-year-old scored five goals last season
, but it was his creativity in creating opportunities in front of goal that endeared him to fans of the East London club.
However following Declan Rice’s departure – Paqueta is said to be keen on a move away and he does not want to be involved in another relegation battle, which makes his exit look even likelier.
West Ham have added a list of players to their Premier League side, as James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez join David Moyes’ squad.
Paqueta has a £85m buyout clause in his contract but it cannot be triggered until next summer, meaning any move away from east London may have to wait until next summer.
