Raphael Varane is the latest star to be linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, but intends to stay at Manchester United – despite former France teammates N’Golo Kante and Karim Benzema trying to persuade him to move to the Middle East.

Raphael Varane Wants To Stay At United Despite Saudi Interest

The French defender scored the winning goal in United’s opening Premier League game against Wolves on Monday, heading home Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross.

Varane is entering his third season at Old Trafford, and is an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s side, having formed a strong partnership with Lisandro Martinez in the heart of United’s defence.

The former France international joined the Red Devils after a nine-year spell with Real Madrid, where he won four Champions League titles. During his time in Spain, he established himself as one of the world’s best centre-backs. He also won the World Cup with France in 2018, before retiring from international football earlier this year.

The 30-year-old played alongside Kante and Benzema for France, and also the latter at club level and it is reported that the duo have been attempting to persuade him to join them in Saudi Arabia. They both joined Al-Ittihad from Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively, and now the side want to sign Varane.

However, Varane has rejected an offer from the club as he wants to compete in European football for at least one more season. He still has two years left on his deal at Old Trafford, and has full commitment to the club following his retirement from the French national team.
