The England international was appointed the new club captain earlier this month after the departure of Blues legend Cesar Azpilicueta.

James captained his side in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool last Sunday, but was replaced late on due to apparent ‘tiredness’. However, further tests that followed the game revealed a hamstring problem leaving Chelsea with an anxious wait to find out how long he may be out for.

Malo Gusto replaced James, who signed from Lyon in the summer and he could start this weekend against West Ham United on Sunday.

Also, Chelsea have agreed a deal with Newcastle United to sell full-back Lewis Hall, and if that move goes through then the West London side could find themselves short of cover on both flanks.

Mauricio Pochettino has brought in plenty of players this summer, including Moises Caicedo most recently. However, encountered a setback in their pursuit of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. The Blues activated the 21-year-old’s release clause, but the Palace winger decided to sign a new four-year deal at the club.

Keep an eye out for the next Reece James injury update over the next few days.
