FA chief executive Mark Bullingham believes Sarina Wiegman could replace Gareth Southgate as the next England boss saying she is “perfectly capable”.
Sarina Wiegman Could Replace Gareth Southgate As England Boss
The Dutch coach has guided England into the Women’s World Cup final where they will take on Spain ion Sunday. She has had an impressive tenure as the Lionesses coach and could soon make history by becoming the first ever female manager in men’s international football.
Southgate’s current contract is set to expire next summer after Euro 2024, and there is belief that he will not sign an extension, whether he wins the tournament or not.
There are plenty of candidates who could replace Southgate, and now Wiegman is considered for the job after providing fans with the most successful period in the history of the England Women’s team.
Wiegman led England Women to European Championship glory in 2022, and won the Finalissima earlier this year.
England face Spain in Sydney on Sunday with a chance to win a first World Cup for the nation since 1966. They’re currently unbeaten in the tournament and have had a special summer so far.

FA Chief Mark Bullingham Speaks Out On England Job
“”People always say it is the best man for the job or the best Englishman,” Bullingham said. “Why does it have to be a man?
“I think our answer is always: ‘it’s the best person for the job.’ We think Sarina is doing a great job and hope she continues doing it for a long time. I think Sarina could do anything she wants in football.
“If at some point in the future she decides she wants to move into the men’s game, that would be a really interesting discussion, but that’s for her, right?
“I don’t think we should view it as a step up. If she decides at some point in the future to go in a different direction, I think she’s perfectly capable of that.”
