Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 Tips On Day Four, Friday 4th August 2023

The first selection for us is CALLING THE WIND, who won this race in 2021 and can do it again two years on. Had cheekpieces on when impressive winner in Northumberland Plate at Newcastle last time out, and he retains them once again for this one. Neil Callan also stays in the saddle after that win, and this stayer has every chance of more success in a race he loves. Trainer Richard Hughes is hoping to use this race as a springboard for the Ebor Festival at York, so will be keen to see a good run from his gelding this time around.
2:25 – Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo) 1m ITV: Docklands @ 9/2
Our second pick is DOCKLANDS, who won at Royal Ascot in June in the hot Britannia Stakes. Completed his hat-trick that day and will be in the mix up against a strong favourite this time around. Hayley Turner has saddled him in all of his five races so far, and stays loyal once again, which is a positive. This colt is one of, if not the most progressive in the race and is having a great season. Also, a soft and slow ground winner so there’s a lot to like about Harry Eustace’s charge.
3:00 – Coral Golden Mile Cl2 (3yo+) 1m ITV: Awaal @ 10/1
The next selection in our Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 on Friday is AWAAL. Simon & Ed Crisford’s gelding has ran some excellent races in handicaps this season, and has come third in his last two runs. They were both strong contests, and this drop back down to 1m may work in favour of this four-year-old. Hasn’t won since being gelded, but has ran three stormers in Britain and a last at Longchamp can be forgiven back in April. Awaal is a handicap winner waiting to happen, and has every chance on this surface.
3:35 – King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 5f ITV: Highfield Princess @ 10/11
Our fourth and final selection in our Friday Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 is HIGHFIELD PRINCESS. John Quinn’s mare had a sensational 2022 campaign, with three Group 1 wins and has looked in top form this year so far, placing in the King’s Stand and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. She’s also versatile ground-wise, and going back down to 5f can only help her cause, after winning twice over that distance last season.
