This is a strong staying handicaps open to 3yo’s with plenty in with a chance of winning. However, our pick for this one is FOX JOURNEY. Sir Michael Stoute’s colt impressed when recording his second career win at Newbury last month, and can improve further over the same trip in this one. The booking of Oisin Murphy is also positive, and only 5lb higher than his last run, he is an attractive competitor.
2:25 – Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo) 7f – ITV – Fast Response @ 9/2
Our selection in this Class 1 contest is FAST RESPONSE. Karl Burke’s four-year-old is an interesting runner, and while not winning yet this term had spectacular form on testing ground last year. Also, the last time this won, a certain Clifford Lee was in the saddle. Lee was aboard the last time Fast Response got past the winning post first, and he won on soft and heavy ground three times between October and November last year. The forecast heavy rain overnight is just what this filly wants, and gets the nod from us in this competitive race.
3:00 – Molecomb Stakes (Class 1) (2yo) 5f ITV – Baheer @ 6/1
BAHEER is our selection in the Molecomb Stakes, and there’s plenty to like about gelding. Richard Hannon has won the last two renewals of this race, and will be eyeing a third straight success. There was a lot of talk about this son of Mehmas prior to his debut at Newbury in May, but he lost out to 150/1 shot Zoulou Chief. However, just a few weeks later he returned to the course and won impressively under Pat Dobbs. He dominated from the front that day and won with ease, and the pace shown there indicates this drop back down to 5f will be no problem at all.
3:35 – Sussex Stakes (Class 1) (3yo+) 1m – ITV – @ Paddington @ 4/9
Onto the final selection of our Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 tips for day two, we’re backing PADDINGTON to win the feature race of the day. There’s not much not to like about this leading three-year-old, who has every chance of the winning for the six-timer. Aidan O’Brien surprisingly hasn’t won this race 2016, but he won’t get a better chance to do so this time around. Paddington has had a fascinating couple of months – in June, he won the St James’s Palace Stakes at Ascot, before beating top-class filly Emily Upjohn in the Coral Eclipse at Sandown in July. Inspiral will be his closest challenger in this one, but Paddington should almost certainly take the beating!
