Tony Calvin ITV Racing Tips For Saturday 29th July 23
- 2:40pm – York – 6f Sky Bet Dash Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+) – Aberama Gold @ 5/1
Tony Calvin’s first tip of the day is at York in the Sky Bet Dash. The Betfair man is backing Alberama Gold to get home first in one of the big handicaps of the day!
David O’Meara’s gelding is in stall 12, which Calvin believes is an ideal set up for the six-year-old. He recored two wins last month over 6f at Wolverhampton and Hamilton respectively, and looks to go off as the favourite in this one.
Aberama Gold was beaten by just 1 1/2 lengths in this race last season, and is 2lb better off this time around. The horse is also ground versatile so the rain that has hit York this week should be no issue to this former heavy ground winner. Jockey Mark Winn is a 3lb claimer, so connections of this horse will surely be hoping to come away with a place at the very least.
This Tony Calvin tip is advised as an each-way bet.
- 3:00pm – Ascot – 7f International Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+) – Tacarib Bay @ 14/1
Calvin’s next tip is in another handicap, and this time its the Heritage Handicap at Ascot! It’s bound to be competitive, but the Betfair horse racing expert is backing Tacarib Bay for the Richard Hannon team. Ryan Moore saddled this four-year-old last time out in a disappointing display at Newmarket, however Sean Levey is back aboard for this race.
Tacarib Bay is back on the same mark as he was for his last win, which came last July and after a few months off the track, he could bounce back in style, which he usually does after a lay-off. The son of Night Of Thunder may not have won here, but he has some solid Ascot form including a second in another handicap at this meeting last year. Since his last run, he has also been gelded, so can only offer more hope.
- 3:40pm – Ascot – 1m4f King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo+) – Deauville Legend @ 25/1
And the Tony Calvin tips conclude with the biggest race of the day! Calvin has tipped Deauville Legend in the King George, who is an outside chance in the middle-distance classic.
James Ferguson’s four-year-old ran a big race on his return when fourth to Pyledriver in the Hardwicke, despite getting no racing room on the inside in the closing stages. He also ran a huge race in the Melbourne Cup last year on soft ground, however didn’t quite stay the 2m, which was one of the main factors in defeat.
The son os Sea The Stars has only had one race since Flemington last November but there’s belief from connections that he has come a long way in the short time since that Ascot 4th when losing to Pyledriver.
Oisin Murphy also takes over from regular jockey Daniel Muscutt for this one, which is a positive booking, putting him firmly into the calculations for the race, despite the big price.
