Chelsea are reportedly in negotiations to sign Ajax star, Mohammed Kudus, with the Ghanaian international set to cost around £40m.

The Blues are reportedly leading the race for Kudus’ services, with Ajax said to prefer the offer made by Chelsea in comparison to fierce rivals, Arsenal.

Many Premier League sides have shown interest in the Ajax player, who has established himself amongst Europe’s elite players.

After an impressive spell for FC Nordsjaelland, where Kudus scored 14 goals in 57 matches, the Ghanaian international earned a move to Dutch giants, Ajax.

During his time in the Netherlands, the 22-year-old has contributed to 33 goals in 84 appearances and is now one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

According to reports, Chelsea have shown heavy interest in the young midfielder and could beat Arsenal  in the race to land Kudus’ signature – despite a poor 2022-23 campaign.

The Blues had a catastrophic campaign, as they finished 12th in the Premier League and recorded the lowest points tally in the club’s history.

Former Brighton manager, Graham Potter, was hired in September and was sacked after just six-months following a poor run of results.

His replacement, Frank Lampard, was unable to improve life at Stamford Bridge and the Blues ended the season without a single victory over any side in the top six.

This poor performance has made summer signings a priority, as Chelsea are reportedly set to continue their huge spending that saw them bring in over £500m worth of players in the last two windows.

Being the biggest spenders over recent windows may be pivotal when agreeing a deal for Kudus, as the Ghanaian has two-years remaining on his current contract and could cost up to £40m.
