Manchester United have set a £40m asking price on former captain Harry Maguire, with West Ham interested in signing the out of favour defender.

Harry Maguire was signed from Leicester City in 2019 for £80m, but after a rollercoaster of a career in Manchester it seems the 30-year-old could depart this summer for half of what United paid.

The centre back was made captain of the Manchester United after just ten games at the club, but being the world’s most expensive defender came with high expectations that Maguire failed to ever live up to.

Four years after joining United and Maguire looks destined for a move to London this summer, as West Ham are reportedly showing keen interest in signing the out of favour defender.

Maguire is currently earning £200,000 a week at United, but with the poor performances the Englishman has been displaying in the last season at Old Trafford his club will definitely believe they are overpaying for his services.

With the Euro’s coming up next summer Gareth Southgate has warned Maguire he is at risk of not being selected if he cannot get regular game time, meaning Maguire could force a move this summer.

The Hammers just completed a deal worth £105m with Arsenal for their captain Declan Rice, so they have more than enough money to fund a move for Maguire who has been valued at £40m.

United on the other hand are short on funding this summer and a deal for Maguire could help bring in much needed players such as Andre Onana from Inter.

It is important that United get the Onana signing over the line soon, as David De Gea left on a free two weeks ago leaving Erik Ten Hag without a number one with the Premier League season beginning in just over three weeks.
