Remarkable Shaquille Lands July Cup To Make It Six Wins On The Bounce
Shaquille’s trademark fluffed start was on show again in the July Cup as the talented sprinter decided to give a few lengths away to another Group One field by rearing as the gates opened.
It was something he did in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, but still won by 1 1/4 lengths and this crazy trait was out again in the July Cup at Newmarket on Sat 15th July after rearing-up in the stalls again (watch below).
However, you feel that Shaquille knows just how good he is, so he’s giving the others a chance with a head start at the beginning of his races.
But this remarkable horse proved just how good he is again to show a blistering turn-of-foot in the middle part of the race to make up the lost ground and take up the running. Most horses, after using up all that energy, would have floundered in the final furlong – but not Shaquille, as this Charm Spirit colt just kept pouring it on to eventually beat a top field of proven Group One winners by 1 1/2 lengths.

Shaquille Entries: Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Could Be Next
Looking at the Shaquille entries on the horizon, the next stop for this incredible speedster could be the Betfair Sprint Cup on September 9th at Haydock Park.
This Group One race, which is run over 6f, holds a top prize of ÂŁ226,840 and is the only engagement on Shaquille Racing Post entry page at this stage.
If taking in the Sprint Cup, this will give the Julie Camacho horse just under 2 months to freshen up since his July Cup heroics.
Shaquille would also be looking to become the sixth 3 year-old to win the race since 2014, while it would be a first success in this Group One for trainer Julie Camacho.
The interesting sub-plot to Shaquille’s next race could also revolve around the jockey situation. Oisin Murphy rode him to win at Royal Ascot but was suspended for the July Cup, with Rossa Ryan taking over.
We’ve also had James Doyle Graham Lee and Sean Leavy ride the horse in his first eight races, so all five would have a squeak in getting the leg-up. That said, you feel that having guided him to Group One glory the main players would be Rossa Ryan and Oisin Murphy to fight it out on who gets the job – we’ll see.
