Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign 18-year-old striker Vitor Roque from Brazilian outfit Athletico Paranaense and he will officially join the club next year.

Barcelona Confirm Acquisition Of Brazilian Youngster Vitor Roque

The deal will begin in 2024 and run over seven years and once again Barca have included a mammoth release clause of €500m.

Roque has scored 22 goals in 66 appearances for Paranaense and also became Brazil’s youngest international debutant back in March. He also helped his club reach the Copa Libertadores final last season as well as finishing as Brazil’s top goalscorer at the South American Under-20 championship earlier this year. He scored six goals as the country lifted the trophy for the 12th time.

The La Liga side will reportedly pay €30m for the young attacker, with another €31m in potential add-ons in the future.

The Catalan giants have already secured the services of Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan on free transfers from Athletico Bilbao and Manchester City respectively as they bid to defend their La Liga crown.

Robert Lewandowki turns 35 in August and Barcelona could potentially see Vitor Roque as a potential heir to the Poland international

Barca president Joan Laporta was speaking on Tuesday on what to expect from Roque.

“He very much has his own style. You can’t really compare him with [retired Brazil strikers] Ronaldo or Romario. He is someone that is deadly with both feet inside the box.

“He is different to what we have had here before. If you had to compare him to anyone, it would be Ronaldo, who was a force of nature with us. [Roque] has bags of potential, is young, powerful and Brazilian.”
