Chelsea striker David Fofana has completed a loan move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin which will keep him at the club until June 2024.
David Fofana Joins Union Berlin On Loan
The 20-year-old signed for the Blues from Molde in January on a long-term deal. Fofana signed a deal at Chelsea until 2029 with an option to extend the deal for a further year.
Fofana struggled to make an impact in the side and made just three Premier League appearances. However, a loan move could be what he needs to get to grips with high level European football.
His game time would have likely been limited even more this season with the club bringing in Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku. Armando Broja has also returned from injury and is in Mauricio Pochettino’s pre-season plans.

Chelsea released a statement on Tuesday morning: “David Fofana will will now continue his development with Union Berlin, who will compete in the Champions League this season for the first time in the club’s history.”
Union Berlin qualified for the Champions League for the first time after winning 1-0 against Werder Bremen in their final game of the season.
Fofana is not the first Blues player to leave this summer. N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy and Mason Mount amongst others have already permanently departed.
