Arsenal and Juventus Keeping Tabs on Aymeric Laporte With Manchester City Future Uncertain

Limited game time for Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte last season has left his future at the Etihad up in air, and potential suitors circling the situation are ready to pounce if an opportunity should arise.

An injury to his knee that required invasive surgery just before the start of last season meant Aymeric Laporte missed as many as 11 games, returning to full fitness in October 2022.

Manchester City took the necessary steps to bring in reinforcements, namely Manuel Akanji’s £15m move from Borussia Dortmund, which has proven to be a shrewd addition.

This, coupled with Pep Guardiola experimentation with a new formation and Ake and Akanji cementing their spots as starters, has left Laporte with limited opportunities.

Although the season gone by was plagued by injuries at the start, the Spaniard would only go on to make 19 appearances in all competitions.

At 29, he still has plenty left in the tank but rumours of another defensive arrival in the shape of Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol will more than likely bring an end to his five-year career in Manchester.

Fresh reports coming out Spain this morning suggest that several clubs have already thrown their hat in the ring, ready for when Laporte seeks a move away.

Mundo Deportivo claim that last season’s closest challengers Arsenal would be interested in adding further depth to their defence, and a string of positive dealings between the two clubs in the past may help to facilitate a fast resolution.

The addition of another left-sided figure would also help Mikel Arteta seamlessly switch to a back three when required.

Elsewhere, Juventus are also said to be keen as they continue to rebuild in the afterglow of a decade of dominance, while mutterings of a  return to his native Basque Country with former club Athletic Bilbao have also been suggested.
