Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Benfica midfielder, Joao Neves, however Mason Mount still tops Erik ten Hag’s wishlist.

The 2022-23 campaign saw success return to Old Trafford once again, as the Red Devils won silverware for the first time in seven years.

Not only did Erik ten Hag win the Carabao Cup in his opening season, the Dutchman also guided his side to third place in the Premier League.

Securing Champions League football was vital for the club’s ambition in the coming transfer window, as a host of Europe’s elite players have been linked with a move to Manchester.

Andre Onana and Mason Mount are just two of the numerous players linked with a move to the club and according to reports, Benfica youngster, Joao Neves, has caught the eye of the Dutch manager.

The Portuguese side were crowned champions in Portugal with a 3-0 victory over Santa Clara on the final day, meaning the club have won 38 league titles.

However, performances in Europe left supporters underwhelmed as Benfica were eliminated from the Champions League quarter final by Inter Milan.

Despite this display, Joao Neves was a bright spark and after coming through the ranks at Benfica, the 18-year-old has made 20 appearances for the first-team and has cemented a place in the heart of midfield.

Neves has also started each of Portugal’s three games at the European Under-21 Championship and is expected to play against England in the quarter final.

A deal to offload the 18-year-old midfielder may face complications, as the youngster recently signed an extended deal that is set to expire in 2028.

The teenager may not be a guaranteed starter in Manchester, however, due to his defensive capabilities there is an option to replace Casemiro in the coming years.
