Chelsea have reportedly began negotiations with Brighton over a move for Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo, despite Manchester United showing heavy interest.

The Blues had a catastrophic campaign, as they finished 12th in the Premier League and recorded the lowest points tally in the club’s history.

Former Brighton manager, Graham Potter, was hired in September and was sacked after just six-months following a poor run of results.

His replacement, Frank Lampard, was unable to improve life at Stamford Bridge and the Blues ended the season without a single victory over any side in the top six.

This poor performance has made summer signings a priority, as Chelsea are reportedly set to continue their huge spending that saw them bring in over £500m worth of players in the last two windows.

One player that could be on his way to Stamford Bridge is Brighton star, Moises Caicedo, as according to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have contacted Brighton over a move for the Ecuadorian.

Since signing for the Seagulls in 2019, the 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League. Being a pivotal part of Brighton’s squad under both Graham Potter, and Roberto De Zerbi.

Making 43 appearances in all competitions, the 21-year-old has continued his superb performances this season. His consistency has helped Brighton reach the FA Cup semi final for the first time in over 30 years.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have shown interest in Caicedo, as the Gunners looked set to sign the youngster in January before talks broke down.

The Brighton midfielder even took to  social media to push for a move, however both parties failed to agree a fee and he stayed at the Amex.

The Brighton star wrote: “I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart,”

“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.”

However, after the Gunners £105m bid for Declan Rice it is unlikely they will enter negotiations with Brighton – meaning Chelsea are the front-runners.
