Manchester City have seen their first proposal of £90m for Declan Rice rejected by West Ham, leaving a door open for Arsenal who remain in the race for the Hammers captain.

The transfer saga of Declan Rice has been ongoing since the beginning of the summer and West Ham have rejected a third bid for their captain today – this time from Manchester City.

City bid a fee of £80m with £10m of add-ons included in the deal, but West Ham remain confident over their £100m valuation for their 24-year-old.

City first registered their interest in Rice last week, with the side entering the race on Monday night proposing a deal worth £90m, similar to that of Arsenal’s second bid last week.

Arsenal have already seen a bid of £90m rejected by West Ham last week, however their deal included £15m in add-ons that the Hammers believed to be ‘unrealistic’.

With City’s bid rejected early on Tuesday, Arsenal are expected to approach West Ham yet again with a third improved bid this week as they remain firmly in the race to sign Rice.

Following West Ham’s Conference League success at the end of last season, chairman of the club David Sullivan said he was “99%” sure Rice would leave West Ham ahead of next season.

Rice is reportedly happy to make the move to any club this summer, as the midfielder is looking for a step up in his career to Champions League football.

Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen the Gunners in squad depth ahead of next season, as Arsenal prepare for a long awaited return to the Champions League.
