Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City on a free transfer with the German midfielder’s contract up at the end of the month.

Ilkay Gundogan Barcelona Move Close

The 32-year-old will sign a three-year contract with Barca after spending seven seasons in the Premier League with the Cityzens. While the move has not officially been announced by either side, the deal is reportedly done according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Gundogan had been in talks with City over a new deal, but the length of the deal was something that couldn’t be agreed. The Germany international was offered a one year contract plus an option of a further 12 months, which wasn’t of interest to him.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League since signing for City in 2016.

Gundogan captained his side to a monumental treble in his final season at the Etihad, as City became only the second English side to win a treble of its kind.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been quick to sort a replacement, with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic edging closer to signing for the club in a deal worth up to £30m.

Declan Rice is also of interest to the Cityzens, and have reportedly stepped up their pursuit for the West Ham captain.
