Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is set to spend a second season at Arsenal, despite transfer interest from clubs in Italy this summer.

With multiple Serie A clubs interested in Arsenal’s veteran midfielder, Jorginho has expressed his desire to stay with the Gunners for one more season.

The 31-year-old only joined Arsenal from London rivals Chelsea in January, with a fee of around £12 million paid for the experienced player.

Jorginho has decided to stay in London this summer as he hopes to compete for a place in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI next season.

Last season the Italian made 32 appearances in the Premier League for both Arsenal and Chelsea, featuring mainly off the bench after signing for the Gunners.

Next season Jorginho may have less players to compete with in midfield however, as Granit Xhaka is expected to leave the Emirates in the coming weeks.

Thomas Partey has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer and it seems the defensive midfielder could also be on his way out, possibly making room for Jorginho.

Arsenal aren’t just selling players this summer however, as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen the Gunners in squad depth ahead of a return to the Champions League.

Arteta is reportedly keen on bringing Declan Rice, Romeo Lavia and Jurrien Timber to Arsenal this season – who could all compete for Jorginho for a spot in the lineup.

Jorginho’s former Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz has already been confirmed as an Arsenal player next season, with the German making the switch across London for around £65m.

It looks as if Jorginho is set to be reunited with Havertz this summer, as he hopes to stay on at Arsenal and prove his worth in what will be a tough season for Arsenal.
