Toni Kroos has signed a one year contract extension with Real Madrid taking him into his tenth season at the Santiago Bernabéu.

It will be a fierce battle for a starting place in the Madrid midfield next season, especially with Jude Bellingham finalising his move last week. However, Carlo Ancelotti was keen to hold on to Kroos for extra depth as the side prepare to win the La Liga and Champions League back next season.

Kroos along with plenty of other stars of European football has been subject to interest from Saudi Pro League sides this summer but he has not been tempted with a move over to the Middle East and will enter his tenth season in the Spanish capital.

His former teammate Karim Benzema was one of the first stars to join the Saudi Pro League this summer after he signed for Al-Ittihad. Benzema has since been joined by fellow frenchman N’Golo Kante.

Kroos has been at Madrid since joining from Bayern Munich in 2014 after winning the World Cup and has made 417 appearances for the club, including 30 in La Liga and 12 in the Champions League last season.

Over his nine seasons he has won four Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.

It is fair to say Kroos would be a big miss in the Madrid camp, after being a key part of their success since arriving.
