Arsenal have emerged as surprise favourites to sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber this summer, with the Dutchman agreeing personal terms amid Manchester United interest.

Mikel Arteta has certainly been busy this summer and it looks as if the Arsenal manager is set to add yet another young talent to his ranks in Jurrien Timber.

The Gunners have reportedly already agreed personal terms with the defender and have submit a £30m bid to Ajax in a quick move that has made them favourites to sign the 22-year-old.

Ajax have set a £50m price tag on their versatile player, but Arsenal believe they can sign Timber for cheaper with the player already committed to the Gunners.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Timber this summer, but it seems Arsenal may have beat the Red Devils to the punch on this occasion.

Timber has expressed his desire to play abroad in the past this season: “At the Dutch national team, I often talk to boys who play football abroad. I want to take that step someday.”

Ajax are reportedly not in discussions to extend Timber’s contract ahead of next season, as he is open to move to another club this summer.

Timber would be a perfect fit into Mikel Arteta’s young side and he could be the latest addition to what could be a very strong Arsenal side next year.

Arsenal are also reportedly in talks to sign Premier League stars Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Romeo Lavia this summer, as Arteta prepares for a return to the Champions League.
