Peter Drury is set to replace the legendary Martin Tyler as the lead voice of Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage ahead of the new season.

Drury will become the new lead voice after Tyler didn’t have his contract renewed. The 77-year-old will now retire after 33 years on Sky Sports, and he will be remembered for plenty of iconic moments in the commentary box.

Popular in the football world off the field, Drury will still continue to be the voice of the Premier League in the United States, as well as working with Sky. Drury has worked with NBC Sports for a number of years now and will split the roles next season, with big boots to fill.

Tyler covered numerous major tournaments and his commentary for Sergio Aguero’s dramatic, title winning goal for Manchester City will go down in history as one of the league’s key moments.

According to reports, Sky Sports have axed half of their football reporting team in a brutal cost-cutting exercise which has even saw Geoff Shreeves asked to take a significant pay cut.

The rest of Sky’s decisions were made after a consultation over redundancies in April with six of the 13 in the football reporters crew being cut. However, some may choose to go voluntarily and other could be offered alternative roles.
