It was no secret The Queen loved her horse racing but with Her Majesty sadly passing away last September, the big question is – will King Charles be at Royal Ascot 2023 this year and ‘taking over the reins’ of his mother’s love for this huge annual horse racing event?
Will King Charles III and Camila WILL Attend Royal Ascot 2023?
In short – YES, King Charles is fully expected to be at Royal Ascot 2023.
King Charles III and Camila WILL be on show over ALL five days at Royal Ascot as the new King looks to fulfil one of his mother’s big passions.
We know the Queen loved attending Royal Ascot each year and even though it became more difficult in recent year’s, and she missed the 2022 meeting, this was an event she looked forward to each year.
Plus, over the years she witnessed 24 of her horses winning at Royal Ascot.
King Charles Said To Be “Not Looking Forward” To Royal Ascot
However, despite King Charles and Camila ‘filling in’ for the Queen at last year when she wasn’t able to attend – there are reports to suggest (Daily Mail) that Charles have classed the event as ‘An Ordeal’ and is ‘Not Looking Forward’ to having to step up as the main Royal figurehead at the biggest flat meeting of each season.
Of course, Charles and Camila have been regulars at Royal Ascot over the years – playing a more ‘behind the scenes’ roll, but now as the King the five day meeting will take on a much different look for Charles.
Being in the head carriage of the procession comes with more attention and then once racing starts there will be also be more trophy presenting duties, not to mention ‘horsey chat’ that he might struggle with when speaking to some trainers and jockeys.
Don’t forget, the Queen knew her horses and was very knowledgeable about horse racing in general – so holding a conversation with top trainers and stable staff at Royal Ascot came as second nature. The same certainly can’t be said for King Charles.
The King Inherited All The Queen’s Race Horses and Her Colours
King Charles III also inherited the Queen’s horses when she died on September 8th 2022 – and so far he’s had 6 winners go in under his name.
He’s sure to have a few runners over the five-day meeting too and maybe this will help spark his love for a sport his mother held in very high regard.
The King’s racing colours will also be the same as the Queen’s silks (see here).
What Time Is The Royal Procession At Royal Ascot Each Day?
The Royal procession will take place before racing at Royal Ascot each day at 2:00pm. King Charles II and Camila will be in the first carriage through the meeting with various different guests joining them over the five days.
Other Royals, that will include Prince William and Kate are expected to attend too in the following carriages.
