Aidan O’Brien is sending his 2000 Guineas flop Little Big Bear over to Haydock to run in the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes on Saturday, but with Frankie Dettori booked to ride and the return to a sprinting trip – he’s sure to be a popular pick to bounce back.

Frankie Dettori Will Ride Guineas Flop Little Big Bear In Sandy Lane Stakes
We last saw Little Big Bear running last of 14 in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 6th – it was a race popular jockey Frankie Dettori won on Chaldean, but this Saturday he’ll be on the horse that trailed in last that day (watch below).
Can Frankie get ‘The Bear’ back roaring?
Little Big Bear clearly ran too free over that 1m trip – and also returned lame – so the drop back to 6f ahead of Saturday’s Sandy Lane Stakes at Hadock could easily see him get back to winning ways.
And the layers are of this thinking too as he’s been put in as favourite with the best horse racing betting sites.
It’s also interesting that Aidan O’Brien is sending him over from Ireland to run in the race that carries a ÂŁ70,000 first prize – suggesting he’s ready to run again and over his below-par Newmarket effort.
Prior to that poor Guineas runs, when being sent off as a facnied 5/1 shot, Little Big Bear caught the eye of many during his 2 year-old days when wining four on the spin, including the Group One Phoenix Stakes by an impressive 7 lengths last August at the Curragh.
In a race that lacks depth, Little Big Bear will have most to fear on Saturday from the Archie Watson runner Bradsell – plus Cold Case, who hails from the Karl Burke yard that have won the Sandy Lane Stakes twice since 2016.
However, Frankie Dettori’s mount is rated 124 and that still a massive 10lbs higher than his nearest rival Bradsell and they race here off level weights.

Charles Hills Has Booked Dettori For Equilateral In Temple Stakes
As well as Little Big Bear, Frankie Dettori has also been booked to ride the Charles Hills-trained 8 year-old Equilateral in the Group Two Temple Stakes on the same Haydock card. The horse (along with the jockey) will be the oldest in the 14-runner field.
He’s been put in around 20/1 to give Frankie his first win in the race since landing the spoils with Lochsong in 1994.
The Hills camp won this decent sprinting prize twice since 2018 with the speedy Battaash.
