Use our 2023 Temple Stakes trends to find the best profiles based on past winners of the race. Last year we saw the Henry Candy-trained Twilight Calls beaten a head by the Royal runner King’s Lynn – can he make amends in the big Haydock sprint this Saturday?

Temple Stakes Trends to Help You Find The 2023 Winner
The Group 2 Temple Stakes is one of the big highlights on the UK horse racing calendar this Saturday as some of the best sprinters around do battle over the flying 5f course at Haydock.
12 months ago, the Henry Candy-trained Twilight Calls was just denied by a head by the royal runner King’s Lynn and the runner-up is back for more this Saturday in a bid to try and go one better.
We could also see the promising 3 year-olds The Platinum Queen and Dramatised in the race as the pair look to become only the fourth winning 3 year-olds since 1996
What Date & Time Is The 2023 Temple Stakes?
📅Time/Date: 3:30pm (Saturday 27th May 2023)
🏇Racecourse: Haydock
💰 Purse/Winner: £70,888
📺 TV: Racing TV/ ITV4
🎲 Odds: Dramatised 3/1| The Platinum Queen 3/1 | Twilight Calls 7/2
Look For Horses Aged 5 or Younger
The first of the Temple Stakes trends to note is to side with horses aged 5 or younger as we’ve seen 85% of the last 20 winners fit this age bracket – including the last six winners.
We’ve also only seen 2 winning 3 year-olds take the race in the last 18 years. The 3 year-olds, The Platinum Queen and Dramatised will be trying to defy this trend.
While the possible older horses in the race this year, looking to overcome the age stat, are Raasel and Equilateral.
65% Of The Last 20 Winners Finished In The Top 3 Last Time
Next up is to look for a top-three finish as 13 of the last 20 winners ticked this Temple Stakes trend. With the final 14 runners out – as it stands those that DID finish in the top three last time out were – Live The Dream, Happy Romance, Royal Aclaim and Dramatised.
A Recent Run Has Been an Advantage
Having a recent run ahead of most races is more often a plus than a negative and with 13 of the last 20 Temple Stakes winners having run in the last 2 months – this applies again.
Those that are heading here off a longer break are The Platinum Queen, Dramatised, Equilateral, Acklam Express, Royal Aclaim and Mitbaahy.
Look For a Low Temple Stakes Draw
With 69% of the last 13 winners coming from stalls 6 or lower, this is another decent Temple Stakes trend to note once we know the draw.
Last year’s winner King’s Lynn backed this up again – winning from stall 2, while Liberty Beach (4) and Battaash (6) also supported this stat.
Those drawn in stalls 6 or lower this year are – Equality (1), Happy Romance (2), Mitbaahy (3), Raasel (4), Royal Aclaim (5) and Twilight Calls (6).

25% Of The Last 20 Winners Won Last Time Out
Winning last time out isn’t 100% essential, but in what is often a competitive sprint we’ve still seen 25% of recent winners fit the bill here.
Only Happy Romance heads here having won last time out.
Respect Any Charles Hills and Henry Candy Runners
Clive Cox won the race in 2016 and 2017, but he’s not got any entries this year.
However, we should still look out for any Henry Candy and Charles Hills runners as they’ve won 4 (2 each) of the last 20 renewals between them.
Candy’s two winners were Airwave (2003) and Kyllacky (2002) and he also trained last year’s close runner-up Twilight Calls, who is back for more this year.
Charles Hills also won the race in back-to-back years with Battaash in 2018 and 2019, while his dad (Barry) won the prize in 1988 with Handsome Sailor – this year they have Equality and Equilateral.

What Is The Temple Stakes Favourites Record Like?
The average winning SP in the last 20 years is just 11/2, which tells us the winner is often found in the top half of the betting.
In terms of the Temple Stakes favourites record we’ve seen 3 of the last 4 market leaders win and 40% of the last 20, which isn’t too shabby considering the competitive nature of the race.
We’ve also had 12 of the last 20 favourites placed. This year’s Temple Stakes market leader, according to the best horse racing betting sites, is set to be The Platinum Queen, who is now with trainer Roger Varian after switching over the winter from Richard Fahey, and/or Dramatised.
However, with last year’s close second Twilight Calls just behind them in the betting, the Henry Candy runner could also make a charge for the Temple Stakes favorites berth.
