Dimitar Berbatov has advised his former club Manchester United that they should make a new striker and a centre-half their two main priorities in the upcoming transfer window this summer.

The Red Devils have made progress since Erik ten Hag became manager, but still need new faces if the club are to challenge for the Premier League title next season. Over £200m was spent last summer, and United fans can expect another big spending this time around.

Marcus Rashford stepped up impressively this season with 29 goals so far in all competitions and has even been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season. However, United have been over-reliant on the England star, and a new striker is one of their priorities, which Berbatov agrees with.

Berbatov also believes his former side need a new centre-half. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane had formed a strong partnership this season, but beyond the pair United do not have much cover.

Berbatov Quotes

The Bulgarian was speaking to Betfred: “They need a striker, for sure. It’s been spoken about so much before. For me, it’s the priority for United in the summer transfer window because they need that player that’s going to get them over 20 goals a season. Who’s it going to be? We need to wait and see.

“I also believe they need to buy a centre-back this summer and it’s a must, in my opinion. I believe that United are pretty much covered in evert other area on the pitch, but if they don’t have that consistency, then they’re going to drop points when they shouldn’t drop points and end up in a similar position next season.”

Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen are two names that have been mentioned with United having an interest in both players. It remains unknown who United will sign this summer, but it’s sure going to be a busy one.
