West Ham took another step towards European glory after advancing to the Europa Conference League final thanks to a 3-1 aggregate victory over AZ Alkmaar.

It was all to play at the AFAS Stadion in the second leg of the Europa Conference League semi-final, after West Ham came out on top with a 2-1 win over AZ Alkmaar in the first leg.

Hammers fans were worried ahead of kick-off due to top scorer, and first leg scorer, Michail Antonio being marked as a doubt for the clash.

The Jamaican missed the loss to Brentford at the weekend, but thankfully for Hammers fans – he was fit to start the second leg out in the Netherlands.

A cagey affair in the first half saw chances few and far between, with Lucas Paqueta getting the best of the bunch.

Paqueta cut inside from the right onto his left foot and launched a curling effort in on the AZ goal. Unfortunately for the Brazilian, his strike crashed against the post – going out for a goal-kick.

The second half saw more of the same from both of the teams’ perspectives.

Penalty claims and end-to-end football provided an entertaining platform for a then-goalless game of football.

But in the end, it was the hosts who were forced to throw everything forward in search of an equaliser, which ultimately secured the Hammers’ victory.

A wonderful run from Pablo Fornals saw the Spaniard convert from the edge of the box in the 94th minute to secure a 1-0 victory on the night, and a 3-1 win on aggregate for the London club.

In their first European final appearance 47 years, West Ham will take on Serie A side Fiorentina in Prague.
