Predicting the draw bias on the straight course at Ascot is never easy and those who called it right in last year’s Victoria Cup were rewarded with a monster tricast dividend when the three highest-drawn runners filled the first three places at big prices. There’s seems to be an element of recency bias to this morning’s prices for this 7f cavalry charge, with a number of the low-drawn runners looking over-priced. RHOSCOLYN (stall 8) could only finish eighth of 11 on his reappearance at Haydock last time out but that race was not run to suit his patient style and he was probably in need of the outing. It was also his first run following wind surgery. He disappointed on his first run after a win op in 2021 before finishing a half-length second at 40-1 on his next outing and I’m expecting a better performance today. The son of Territories is bred to relish soft/heavy going but hasn’t had that many opportunities on such a surface. Buy at 5 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back each-way at 22-1 in the fixed odds betting.

Since the beginning of 2010, Milton Harris is nine from 38 when using a first-time tongue-tie on his horses who had had the benefit of a relatively recent outing (within eight weeks) and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £30.67 to a £1 level stake at SP. PARADE AWAY, runner-up in his sole point-to-point, showed promise at Hexham on last month’s Rules debut where he finished a 15-2 fourth of 15. He weakened in the closing stages that day, suggesting a possible breathing issue, and the tongue-tie could help in that regard. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
