Premier League leaders Manchester City are reportedly increasingly confident of signing talented youngster Ethan Nwaneri from title-rivals Arsenal this summer.

City have been searching for the best young talent in United Kingdom and Europe in recent months, and are now eyeing a move for the 16-year-old.

The report comes from Football Insider, who claim that the Citizens and Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the Gunners starlet for several months.

Due to his age, Nwaneri is yet to sign professional terms at the Emirates, despite already appearing for the first team.

Arsenal made him the youngest Premier League player ever earlier this season, as he made an appearance from the bench against Brentford aged 15 years and 181 days old.

Since then though, he has failed to turn out for the first-team again, and may now depart in the summer.

Nwaneri has shone at youth level for the Gunners this term, turning out for both the Under-21s and the Under-18s, with U18s coach Jack Wilshere describing the youngster as ‘exceptional’.

In 26 appearances for both sides, he has scored six goals and assisted four times.

His performances have also seen him earn recognition at international level – receiving call-ups to the England Under-17 side.

He has made 12 appearances for the Young Three Lions, scoring on seven occasions – including back-to-back braces against Denmark and Northern Ireland in the recent U17 European Championship qualifiers.

Nwaneri typically plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play on both wings, as well as striker.
