CHESTER 2.05
KNEBWORTH (system – Awtaad 3yos, early-season turf runners)
Three-year-old progeny of the sire Awtaad have a good record on turf in the first half of the year, landing 23 of their 158 starts for a profit of £27.84 to the usual £1 stake. Those who’d raced within the past six weeks were 19 from 93 for a profit of £69.68. KNEBWORTH, twice a winner over 5f as a juvenile, ran well for a long way when ninth in a 6f handicap at Newmarket last month and may be able bounce back to form now returning to the minimum trip. I’ve also bet pace angle SEANTRABH.
KELSO 2.50
FRANZ JOSEF (system – Sandy Thomson, switchers, second run for the yard)
Sandy Thomson does very well with horses he takes over from other yards, especially at the second time of asking. Had we backed all 77 qualifiers, we’d have found 14 winners (18.2% strike rate) with a £78.63 profit to £1 level stake at SP. FRANZ JOSEF has shown very little so far but could improve now stepping up significantly in trip and looks worth chancing to small stakes.
FONTWELL 5.10
ASTROMACHIA (system – Dr Richard Newland, conditional jockeys’ races)
Dr Richard Newland has a fine strike-rate in races confined to conditional jockeys, scoring with 45 of the 187 qualifiers (24.1%) for a profit of £28.08 to a £1 level stake at SP. ASTROMACHIA, doubled his hurdle tally when scoring at this venue last month and has sound claims of following up.
