AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli says Rafael Leao could recover in time for their Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Inter Milan.

The Portugal international is rated very highly and has scored 13 goals across all competitions for Milan this season.

He was instrumental in their run to the semi-finals and produced a brilliant performance against Napoli in the last round, who they beat 2-1 on aggregate.

However, he remains a doubt for the Inter clash after picking up a muscle injury in Milan’s 2-0 win over Lazio on Saturday.

Leao was not present in training on Tuesday, but Piolo is expected to make a late decision on the 23-year-old.

Pioli was speaking about Leao on Sky Sports Italia ahead of the game.

“Leao will continue to push tomorrow morning, if he feels well, he’ll play. It’s still all open.

“If he can’t start, he won’t even go on the bench.”

Wednesday night’s game will be the first European Milan derby since 2005, and a chance for AC to make their first final since their triumph over Liverpool in 2007.

Inter last won the prestigious competition in 2010, after beating Bayern Munich in the final.

The other semi-final gets underway on Tuesday night as treble-chasing Manchester City travel to the Spanish capital to take on Real Madrid.
