Jorge Messi, the father of Lionel Messi, has released a statement slamming ‘fake news’ in regards to speculation surrounding his son’s transfer.

Messi has been linked with a move away from the French capital, with Barcelona and Saudi Arabia being tipped as likely destinations.

This comes following Messi being suspended by Paris Saint-Germain for taking an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia, something he has since apologised for.

But now, after returning to PSG training, his name is in the spotlight once more.

In a statement on Instagram, Messi’s father denied speculation that his son has an agreement in place for next season.

“There’s absolutely NOTHING agreed with any club for next season. We will decide at the end of the season.” Jorge said.

“Nothing is signed, agreed or verbally agreed. Only fake news using Leo’s name.

“I can guarantee that nothing will be agreed, decided or signed before the end of the current season.”

Regardless of Jorge’s statement, Messi looks set to leave Paris upon the end of his contract in June.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the World Cup winner will make his decision following the culmination of the season, with his focus being on winning Ligue 1.

Romano also claimed that Saudi side Al Hilal are looking to offer Messi €400m a season, whilst Barcelona’s interest may be hampered by Financial Fair Play.
