Manchester United To Opt Against Permanent Wout Weghorst Deal

Manchesrter United have reportedly decided not to sign Wout Weghorst on a permanent deal with Erik ten Hag set to look elsewhere for an alternative striker.

The Burnley forward joined United in a short loan in January, after terminating his then-Besiktas loan deal.

In 26 appearances, the Dutchman managed just two goals, without scoring in the Premier League. He scored his first United goal in the Carabao Cup against Nottingham Forest, then his second and a first at Old Trafford in the Europa League.

He arrived after Cristiano Ronaldo departed the club following a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, and Ten Hag has had striker issues ever since. United fans likely thought Weghorst would have scored more than two, considering he scored nine in 18 games whilst out on loan in Turkey.

The Netherlands international even impressed at the Qatar World Cup, but ultimately failed to make an impact at Old Trafford and is now used as a substitute.

A new striker is the top priority of the United board this summer, with Victor Osimhen highly rated by Ten Hag.

United also like the look of Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani, and Atalanta ace Rasmus Holjund.

The number nine position has been a huge issue, with United only able to find the net 49 times in the Premier League this season. Putting that into context, the rest of the top seven have at least 60 goals.
