The report comes from respected Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Plettenberg revealed the news over on his Twitter account.

“News [about Jurrien] Timber: Ajax definitely wants to keep him as he’s their key player!” he tweeted.

Timber came into the Ajax fold under current Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag has remained a big fan of the youngster ever since, and has reportedly marked him as a transfer target.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Red Devils boss remains a fam of his former central defender.

“Erik ten Hag is always been big fan of Jurrien Timber but there’s nothing new or concrete at this stage,” he said.

“Nothing to report about Manchester United, as of now.

“Ajax don’t even want to speak to clubs about Timber now, so it will be something to see in June – for sure, Timber signed a short contract last year because his dream remains to join another top European club in the future.”

Timber himself has even hinted at a possible move away from the Eredivisie champions.

The Dutchman said: “Transfer? You never know what crosses your path. This summer I will look at my options and make a decision.

“I feel good at Ajax, that’s important for now. Last summer there was interest, but I chose to stay at Ajax.”
