With a month to go until the final day, this season’s intoxicating relegation scrap is refusing to let up as the entirety of the bottom half still face the possibility of dropping out of the top flight. Following a helter skelter weekend for many at the foot of the table, Opta’s supercomputer relegation predictions have experienced another seismic shift.

Nottingham Forest are the biggest movers in Opta’s supercomputer relegation predictions having managed to climb out of the drop zone with a monumental victory against European hopefuls Brighton.

Heading into the gameweek, they were handed a 79.2% chance of relegation, the second-highest of any side, having failed to win in any of their previous 11.

However, off the back of a spirited showing away at Anfield in a 3-2 defeat, they managed to cruise to a memorable victory on Wednesday evening to to move one point clear of 18th-placed Leicester, and put an end to a four-game losing streak.

Elsewhere, rock-bottom Southampton were dealt perhaps the most momentous blow to their chances of survival after falling to fellow strugglers Bournemouth, who coincidentally now have a less than 1% chance after continuing their impressive resurgence.

It leaves the Saints four points behind relegation rivals Everton and six points from safety, which according to Opta’s predictions, could effectively signal the end of their 10-year stint in the top-flight – they are given a 97.6% chance of facing the drop, which represents a 6.7% increase prior to the gameweek.

The rest of the bottom three is comprised of Everton and Leicester, who face each other on Monday in a fixture that holds survival-clinching implications.

The Toffees were condemned to another week in the drop zone after being put to the sword by Newcastle on Thursday evening, and as a result, Opta’s supercomputer bumped up their chances of playing in the Championship by 18%.

As for the Foxes, they managed to salvage a vital point against Leeds in midweek courtesy of a late Jamie Vardy goal, but this still wasn’t enough for Opta to hand them a favourable percentage – their chances were moved up by just over 3% to 34.3%.

Despite sitting in the relegation zone, Opta have consistently backed Leicester to find a way to escape the drop, with percentages favouring Dean Smith’s side over Nottingham Forest and Leeds who sit above them in the table.
