HIGHLAND AVENUE went into my tracker after his half-length runner-up effort in Listed company here at Sandown back in May 2021, as he raced on the inside rail where the ground was slowest. He found the ground too fast when a respectable sixth in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot the following month and followed that with a solid fourth in a Group 2 at Deauville. He’s struggled since, failing to shine in two runs in Dubai since gelded, but the return to this venue and drop in grade could see him run a big race at a nice price (he was the 20-1 outsider of four at the time of writing). PERTH 3.50
FIRE AWAY was pulled up at Stratford on April 1st but that run is easily excused as he failed to handle the heavy going. He usually goes well at this time of year, recording form figures from March to May of 10P122101P1P (5-12) for a profit of £16.10. Today’s quicker surface will suit, and he can bounce back. CHEPSTOW 6.25
JETOILE won well over course and distance from Sail Away in Class 3 company last month and the runner-up boosted the form when bolting up in a valuable Class 2 contest at Ayr last week. He’s now two from two at Chepstow and can maintain his 100% course record by taking this Class3 handicap chase. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
