Manchester United have been expectedly priced as underdogs by FA Cup betting sites following a penalty shootout victory in the semi-final against Brighton.

The Red Devils won 7-6 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes at Wembley, with both sides registering 15 shots each and a combined 11 on target.

Brighton dominated the first half affair and finished the match with 61% possession, but United were resilient and grew into the game as it progressed.

Moises Caicedo was named Player of the Match and enjoyed a fine showing in midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister. Brighton were the only side to register a big chance, missed by Carrington academy graduate Danny Welbeck.

Solly March missed Brighton’s seventh penalty and Victor Lindelof slotted home the decisive spot-kick to set up a mouthwatering Manchester Derby final – the first in history.

United were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday in a 3-0 defeat to six-time competition winners Sevilla on aggregate, ending any hopes of a treble in Erik ten Hag’s debut season.

After winning the EFL Cup earlier this year, many anticipated Manchester United would go on to win at least one more trophy and the FA Cup is their last chance.

The 12-time winners have also lost eight times in the final, most recently at the hands of Chelsea during the 2017-18 season under Jose Mourinho’s reign.

With over a month to wait until the final, Manchester United have an imminent task on hand to finish their Premier League campaign on a high and in the top four.
