The Sun have claimed that Newcastle are confident of signing Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney this summer.

This comes amid the club’s current left-back Dan Burn receiving criticism from fans for his recent performances on Tyneside.

Burn, who is naturally a central defender, has kept Matt Targett out of the line-up in recent times.

But following the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa, a large pocket of the fanbase turned against the 30-year-old citing the need for reinforcements in the left-back position.

Tierney joined the Gunners from Scottish giants Celtic back in 2019, but has been plagued with injuries during his time in the English capital.

He has also fallen out-of-favour when fit too, with Oleksandr Zinchenko now Mikel Arteta’s first-choice left-back.

Despite being second choice at the Emirates, it is reported that £30million-plus would be required to secure his services.

But now, the report claims that people close to Tierney, as well as Newcastle themselves, are confident of a deal being struck that would see the defender move up north to Tyneside.

Tierney has also previously revealed his struggles with homesickness.

This may be another factor to consider in his transfer, as a move up north may be more suited for the Scotsman as it would see him be located closer to his native city of Glasgow.

A move for Tierney could spell bad news for current left-back Targett.

Having made just 13 appearances for the Magpies since moving permanently, his Newcastle career may come to an early ending.
