Trainer Lucinda Russell was the star of the show last weekend when winning the Aintree Grand National and Betfair’s Tony Calvin thinks she can grab the ‘National’ headlines again this Saturday.

Russell has two Scottish Grand National runners to note – Your Own Story, who is the shorter-priced of the pair, and MIGHTY THUNDER.

However, it’s the last-named and former winner of the race that Calvin is most interested in. This 10 year-old won the race in 2021 and despite having not won a race since has dropped to a very attractive mark as a result.

The horse won the race in 2021 off a mark of 144 and is now rated just 128! Add in jockey Patrick Wadge’s 5lb claim and that’s a massive 24lbs lower than a few years ago.

He’s also only got 10st 2lbs to carry and his last run at Kelso was slightly more encouraging, so Calvin is wading in at around 20/1 and it’s easy to see why.

If Lucinda Russell can win the race and pull off the ‘National Double’ she’ll become the first trainer since Ginger McCain to manage this. He won both raced in 1974 with a certain Red Rum!
