Manchester United, alongside Newcastle, are reportedly showing major interest in signing Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio.

This comes in a report from Football Insider, who say that a deal worth upwards of £45 million will likely be enough to secure the services of the defender.

At just 21-years-old, Inacio is considered one of the top young defensive talents in Europe.

He has drawn interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with his agents reportedly having been in Italy, Spain and England speaking to clubs ahead of a big money move in the summer.

His performances have also drawn attention at the international level.

In March, Inacio made his debut for the senior Portugal side in a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein – playing the entire 90 minutes.

It is said that Man United and Newcastle are both trying to move quickly for the defender, with interest landing at his feet from numerous Champions League clubs.

Inacio certainly fits the project on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe expressing his want to work with younger players and build a future for them at St James’ Park.

Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are all tipped to leave Manchester United this summer too, so a move to the Red Devils also makes sense for the youngster.

This could certainly spark another transfer saga in the Premier League, and with both sides now likely to earn Champions League football – Inacio will have a monumental decision to make.
