Rio Ferdinand has explained why he believes his former club Manchester United would have had a “better season” than Arsenal if the Gunners don’t go on to win the Premier League title.
United climbed back to third place on Sunday after a strong performance against Nottingham Forest, winning 2-0.
The Red Devils now sit three points clear of fourth-place Newcastle United, but are 11 points off Man City in 2nd, and 15 points adrift of Arsenal at the top of the table.
Erik ten Hag lifted his first major trophy as United boss in his first season after his side beat Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley in the League Cup final back in February. So, it’s fair to say he’s had a successful maiden year in England.

And, it doesn’t stop there – United are still involved in the FA Cup with their upcoming semi-final tie against Brighton at Wembley. Also, they’re still in the Europa League and have their second-leg tie against Sevilla on Thursday with a current aggregate score of 2-2.
As for Arsenal, they’ve led at the top of the Premier League for most of the season. However, have dropped crucial points in their last two games. The gap to them and City in second is now only four points, with the Citizens having a game in hand. They also still need to play City at the Etihad, so their title hopes may have been slightly dented.
Ferdinand Says United Will Have Better Season If Arsenal Don’t Win Title
Rio Ferdinand was speaking on his Vibe with Five show on YouTube.
“If Arsenal don’t win the league and Man United finish third and just the one trophy, they (United) have had a better season.
“If you’re a player, forget fans, and you finish third and win a trophy – Carbao Cup whatever it is – and the team above you finish second and win no trophies, who is the happier player?”
