Erik ten Hag recruited the Austrian on a short-term loan deal in January due to injury problems in United’s midfield and he’s impressed at Old Trafford.

The Austria captain can certainly play a key role in the closing stages of the season, with United still potentially having plenty of games left with their participation in the Europa League and FA Cup.

Ten Hag’s side could still complete a treble this season, after winning the Carabao Cup back in February.

After he wasn’t favoured under former Bayern Munich manager Juliann Nagelsmann, new boss Thomas Tuchel may want him back in the squad for next season. However, Sabitzer has made it clear that he’d be open to stay in Manchester longer than he may have first thought.

“United made it clear that it was a project until the summer.

“Then we’ll see. Until then, I want to give my everything here. It’s a loan deal without an option. In the summer, the situation will be evaluated.

“But I can say that I found my place here. Now I know the Premier League and can say there’s nothing better, more intense and tougher. Every game is a fight. It’s the best league in the world. When you play once here you know it’s incomparable.

“Of course my thoughts are on United, especially with the trust I get from Erik ten Hag – it’s very positive.. But I’m not the only one who decides.”
