GK: Bernd Leno – 7.0

Maybe Fulham’s Bernd Leno wasn’t the goalkeeper you’d be expecting to see here as the best performing so far this season. Well, his career turnaround has been excellent. He was at Arsenal from 2018 to 2022, and signed for newly-promoted Fulham at the start of this season. He went from losing his No. 1 spot at the Gunners, to becoming one of the league’s most consistent shot-stoppers.

The Cottagers have had a great season on their return to the Premier League, and Leno has had a big impact on Marco Silva’s side. The German ‘keeper has a 73.5% save success rate this season, and on average has produced 4.0 saves per game.

For the reported £8m fee, he’s turned out to be a stellar signing for the newly-promoted side. Many thought that Fulham would have made an immediate return to the Championship after coming up, but they’re more than safe from relegation this season. Leno and Fulham’s steady defence have helped their cause massively.

RB: Kieran Trippier – 7.5

Kieran Trippier has been one of the top performing right-backs in Europe over the past couple of seasons, and has been pivotal to Newcastle United’s recent resurgence.

After spending four years at Spurs, he moved to Spain to play for Atletico Madrid, and back in January of 2022 he was one of the first signings in the Saudi era at Newcastle. Since then, he’s become a fan favourite and has captained the side in a recent Carabao Cup final.

Trippier has produced one goal and five assists in the Premier League this season, as well as keeping 12 clean sheets in a solid Magpies defence.

CB: Fabian Schar – 7.1

Another surprising player who makes this list is Fabian Schar, also of Newcastle United. He’s been a part of this team for a good few years now after signing for just £3m back in 2018.

His threat in the air, passing range, and all-round solidity is a reason why he’s played all but two of Newcastle’s Premier League games so far this season.

Averaging 4.1 clearances and 1.5 key interceptions per game, there’s no secret as to why he’s been rated so highly this season. Newcastle have only conceded 19 goals this season which is the best in the league, and there’s no doing that without a top class defence.

CB: Ben Mee – 7.0

Yet again, another defender that is potentially a surprise on this list, but Ben Mee has been superb this season for Brentford, in his first season at the club. Sitting in 8th place, the Bees are on the same points as Liverpool in 6th, with European football next season still a realistic target.

Mee signed on a free in the summer, after his contract at relegated Burnley expired. It’s fair to say he’s been one of the best free signings in recent Premier League history.

He scored his first goal for the club on his home debut, in a huge 4-0 win over Manchester United at the start of the season. With nine clean sheets, three goals, one assist and 5.5 duals won per game he’s been one of the best defenders in the league so far this campaign.

LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6.9

Signing for league leaders Arsenal in the summer, Oleksandr Zinchenko has solidified himself as one of the best left-backs in the league.

The Ukrainian defender has a pass accuracy of 88%, with two assists for the season. He also scored his first Premier League goal earlier on in the year against Aston Villa.

RM: Bukayo Saka – 7.5

Bukayo Saka has been one of if not Arsenal’s best player this season, and is set to become the highest paid player at the Emirates, with him reportedly being offered a 300k-a-week contract.

He has produced 10/10 performances week in week out for his club, and has even started to flourish on an international level too.

Saka also became the first player to record double figures in goals and assists in the top flight this season, with 12 goals and 10 assists.

With it almost guaranteed that Arsenal will be playing Champions League football next season, there’s more excitement coming for Saka in the near future.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 7.5

Often known for his consistency and top performances whatever the occasion, there’s no surprise that Kevin De Bruyne has been one of the top performing midfielders in the Premier League again this season.

The Belgian midfield maestro only has four goals in the league which is slightly lower than previous seasons.  However, he does make up for it, leading the league with 13 assists through 25 games. Having Erling Haaland on the Manchester City side may have taken a few goals away from De Bruyne, but it has turned him into even more of a provider for his teammates. He has also created more chances than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

CM: Rodri – 7.4

Rodri has been one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe ever since he signed for Man City, and this season has been no different. The Spaniard has produced some great numbers for his side, with 1.0 interception per game, 2.2 tackles per game and 5.8 duals won per game.

Recording five assists and two goals isn’t bad either for a player playing in front of a defence.

LM: Gabriel Martinelli – 7.2

Gabriel Martinelli is having his best season in an Arsenal shirt to date, and has been incredible on the left-wing so far this campaign. His potential is special, and he’s only got better as the season has gone on.

With 13 goals and two assists, he’s been one of the most prolific goalscorer’s in the league this season. Only Marcus Rashford, Ivan Toney, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland have scored more than him in the Premier League.

ST: Erling Haaland – 7.5

Erling Haaland is on track to produce one of the greatest individual seasons in Premier League history, and has 28 goals in the league with 11 games left to play. He has a phenomenal 42 goals in just 37 games in all competitions.

He’s taken the league by storm, and will more than likely smash the record for most goals in a Premier League season, needing just six goals to level Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s 34 each in a single season.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has scored six hat-tricks in all competitions this season, a nightmare for any defender to play against.

ST: Harry Kane – 7.5

It’s not been Harry Kane’s best season on paper, but he’s still broken numerous records and scored a good amount of goals. With 21 Premier League goals, he’s helped Spurs be in an around the top four all season.

He’s also become both Spurs’ and England’s record top goalscorer with 271 and 55 goals respectively for each team. He broke the record for his club against Man City, and done the same for England against Italy in a recent Euro 2024 qualifier.

Kane could be on the move though, with the 29-year-old still yet to sign a new contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Manchester United amongst others are interested in acquiring the record-breaker if he does end up leaving Spurs in the near future.
